Configuration: made it more debian-like
{{H:h|system admin toc}}

This is the easiest way of installing MediaWiki on Breezy. Remember that this installation may not be secure and ready for production purpose. It is meant to be '''"MediaWiki on Ubuntu ASAP"''', it is even faster than '''"MediaWiki on Debian ASAP"'''.

This is a rough list of the steps taken to get MediaWiki running. Someone should kindly
test this for accuracy.

Do not forget to add the universe repository to your /etc/apt/sources.list file by removing the # before the corresponding line before trying to install the following packages.

==Core Packages==

*apache2
*php4 (or php5)
*mysql-server
*php4-mysql (or php5-mysql)

sudo apt-get install mediawiki mediawiki-math

(This would appear to download mediawiki version 1.4.10-1)

==Configuration==
See [[Help:Running MediaWiki on Ubuntu GNU/Linux]] for more detailed discussion on configuring
MediaWiki.

Configure apache2

sudo ln -s /etc/mediawiki/apache.conf /etc/apache2/sites-available/mediawiki.conf
sudo ln -s /etc/apache2/sites-available/mediawiki.conf /etc/apache2/sites-enabled/001-mediawiki

sudo invoke-rc.d apache2 restart

Configure MediaWiki

Browse to: <nowiki>http://localhost/mediawiki</nowiki>
click on: Configure settings

No MySQL username and password is required if the default Ubuntu MySQL configuration is being used.

Copy settings (as per instruction at end of page)

sudo cp /var/lib/mediawiki/config/LocalSettings.php /var/lib/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php
sudo rm -rf /var/lib/mediawiki/config

Change permission on script

sudo chmod 755 /var/lib/mediawiki/LocalSettings.php

This is different from what is suggested in the configuration page. Not sure why.

Browse to <nowiki>http://hostname/mediawiki</nowiki>, and start using...
