'''UPDATE:''' Akamai has suspended and the offending data center and operations should be back to normal.
At some point last night, a bunch of [[w:Akamai Technologies|Akamai]]'s servers went down. Akamai is a content provider for a huge number of website, which means that they serve images, stylesheets, and JavaScript for those websites so that the website owners don't have to buy a lot of servers to serve it themselves. These websites include facebook, newegg, ebay, imdb, and others. Sometime on the night of Sep 15, a number of Akamai servers went down; however, they did not update DNS records for the domains that pointed to these servers, which resulted in sites becoming either completely unusable or just looking like crap.
