Checking acct w/debit card

  • E*TRADE Standard checking
    • Unlimited Debit card and check transactions
    • Free unlimited online bill pay
    • Free initial checkbook
    • No fee for ATM use
    • 1% fee of the transaction amount (including credits and reversals) for non-U.S. currency and foreign transactions – need to call and ask: POS purchases only, or ATM withdrawals as well?
  • Schwab checking
    • No ATM fees. Schwab Bank will reimburse you for any fees charged by other banks.
    • Absolutely impossible to find fee disclosure on this. Need to stop in at a branch. Application form with all info just says Visa Check Card Agreement, which is sent with the card, contains the terms and conditions which apply to this card.
  • TruMark
    • $1.50 per ATM withdrawal (out of network); 1% transaction fee is charged to the Credit VISA but nothing is stated about the debit kind
  • Lockheed
    • $1.50 per ATM withdrawal (out of network); 1% transaction fee

Credit card

  • Schwab
    • Used to have a card with some rewards and 0 fees on international transactions. No longer offered online; need to check in local office.
  • PenFed
    • Absolutely no fees – including cash advances (though APR is still charged, obv)
    • Membership requires enrollment in National Military Asscn for $20
  • CapitalOne
    • Endless array of seemingly undifferentiated choices
    • Probably small line of credit
    • No info on foreign transaction fees, but presumed 0%
