Check your distribution's repository and automatic install system (e.g. synaptic for Ubuntu, yum for Fedora, etc.) for a pre-compiled binary version, and install it if it exists (it should for most distros).
If it doesn't, you'll need to build it from source code yourself, as follows:
Type this into a terminal:
